LRT
This page is still a work in progress.
This page is going to document some of the
work that goes on around the LRT that requires the equipment featured on the
other pages of this section.
Right now I would say that there's a few different types of overall work
that occurs along the LRT.
1. Normal operational requirements. This would primarily be snow removal,
but I would include rail grinding in this
2. Life cycle replacement. We are certainly seeing more of this. This would
such things as tie, rail, frog, and wire replacement. As well, station
related work would include platform renewal, escalator renewal.
3. New build and upgrades. Perhaps this would be the least common, but,
recently included the installation of the crossover between the Yellowhead
Trail and 66 St, and has included the Churchill junction, NE signal and
power upgrades and the E track connection.
4. Emergencies- Fortunately a rarity, but, they do happen. This has
primarily been wire issues and off the top of my head: January 2 95 St
trolleybus/ LRT crossing incident, DLM wire issue, U-2 taking out wire NB
into Grandin, and the most recent Southgate wire issue. Theoretically this
would include derailments, significant grade crossing accidents. Anything
that might require specialized equipment to be brought out to effect
repairs.
Also included on this page are also visiting freight cars to ETS. While a
rarity, we've seen a CN passenger car on E track, complete with temporary
track connection during the IAAF games in 2001, a load of crossing panels
delivered on a bulkhead flat car, 3 loads of rail on flat cars, and of
course 57 SD160's delivered by flat car, and a pair of U2-AC cars. While a
single delivery of a SD is pretty plain, there have been a few times when
there have been 2 SD's at once, and one time where there were 3 SD's at
once. February 2016 also saw a wayward MPM enter ETS trackage.
