TRANSIT SERVICE
2018-2020 Bombardier Flexity Freedom #1001-1026
ETS
followed up to their first 37 SD160 vehicles with an additional order for 20
cars. These 20 cars were to provide enough equipment to service the NLRT
extension to NAIT. The Valley Line Southeast is a new LRT line, currently under
construction. This line was procured using a P3 "Public Private Partnership"
scheme with the winning consortium being responsible for design, construction,
operation, and maintenance of the line over a 30 year period. The TransEd
Partnership was the winning consortium, and included Bombardier for the LRV's
and other aspects of the project. At the end of the 30 year period, during which
the City of Edmonton would have paid off all of the costs of the line, it would
revert to the City of Edmonton for operations and maintenance. As a result,
these LRV's are not technically owned/ operated by the City of Edmonton at this
point, and, ultimately, I guess that's why can get away with fleet numbers that
overlap with the legacy NELRT/ SLRT U2 fleet.
The main section will have regular Flexity Freedom photos, while separate links will
cover LRV delivery.
