Winnipeg Transit 2014 New Flyer XE40 #994-998

As part of an ongoing trial with New Flyer, Winnipeg Transit operated this fleet of battery electric buses from 2014-2018. Designated as XE40's, the buses can be recharged using a conventional electrical outlet at the garage, or by extending a pantograph that connects to special on-street charging stations. Despite being assigned Winnipeg Transit fleet numbers, a number of these buses have been used as demonstrators for New Flyer, such as the unit that ran for St. Albert Transit in March 2015 (which is technically Winnipeg Transit 994 - see this page). Within Winnipeg, these buses were generally deployed on route 20, utilizing a charging station at the airport terminus. #998 was later determined to be a converted hybrid originally built in 2009.
