LETHBRIDGE TRANSIT

Lethbridge Transit, also known as LA Transit, is the third oldest transit system in Alberta. Lethbridge, along with Edmonton and Calgary, operated streetcars, and similarily has since abandoned their streetcar system. However, unlike Edmonton and Calgary, Lethbridge never replaced the streetcar system with a trolleybus system. The city was most likely deemed too small to support a trolleybus network, and as a result the streetcars were replaced by motor buses. During the streetcar years, Lethbridge Transit was known as the Lethbridge Municipal Railway. 1947 was the year that streetcar service ended. Calgary followed in 1950, and Edmonton in 1951. Lethbridge Transit did have a TG-3609 #8, and production rosters show that Baalim Motor Company of Lethbridge had a 1944 TG-3609 #8. There were no other TG-3609's delivered new to any property in Lethbridge, so it is assumed that this bus became Lethbridge Transit #8. It is unknown if Lethbridge Transit bought this bus from Baalim or if they took over Baalim Motor Company entirely. The Baalim Motor Company also had a 1941 TG-2105 and a 1942 TG-2105. Neither had a fleet number, but these buses might have been used in transit service in Lethbridge. Despite this ambiguity, both buses are listed on the Lethbridge roster page.
