Strathcona County Transit initiated service in 1977 under the name of the County of Strathcona Transit System (COSTS). For various reasons, the name was shortened to Strathcona County Transit (SCT) in 1989. Service was originaly contracted out to Edmonton Transit, using buses painted in the blue and yellow ETS livery (with the exception of Strathcona logos in place of the usual Edmonton ones). Pacific Western Transportation (PWT - a division of Diversified Transportation Ltd.) later acquired Strathcona County Transit from Edmonton Transit, possibly in 1989. For a system of its size, Strathcona County Transit has operated a very large variety of buses!
