The year 2000 brought large changes to St. Albert Transit, with the introduction of the St. Albert Centre Exchange, and while it didn't open in 2000, a new transit centre was in the works around the corner from the existing Village Tree Station/ St. Albert Transit Centre, having been renamed to Village Tree Station when the St. Albert Centre Exchange opened. The "Station" designation was to indicate that the Village Tree Station had parking for park and ride available. Like the previous St. Albert Transit Centre, the new Village Tree Station included a building for passengers to wait, and served as a Greyhound agency. The overall bus capacity was about the same as the old transit centre and featured 12 bays. The difference was the new Village Transit Station featured some longer bays better able to handle the growing articulated bus fleet, which in Fall 2001 was growing from 6 to 11. Along Grange Drive is a long bay that still exists today. It was used for passenger pick up and drop off. Original park and ride capacity 225 on City owned land, 80 from the Village Tree Mall, 35 from a local church, and while a specific number isn't noted, with some space from the St. Albert Inn there were nearly 500 parking spots available. When the Village Transit Station closed it had grown to 350 vehicles, plus 190 for $4 per day from a businesses nearby.
As early as 2009 the need for a larger park and ride facility was on St. Albert's radar. By 2015 funding fell into place, land came in 2017, and construction began in May 2019 of the new Naki Transit Centre. Naki would open on August 30, 2020 marking August 29, 2020 as Village Transit Station's last day.
The City of St. Albert would continue making use of the land the station had been built on for a new station- a new and expanded Fire Station #1.
