TRANSED VALLEY LINE SOUTHEAST
Maintenance Equipment

The Valley Line Southeast LRT line was procured as a P3 Public Private Partnership. While other versions of P3's have been, and are being used for LRT construction, the Valley Line Southeast is the only one to use a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Maintain model. Consequently, TransEd will be operating and maintaining the Valley Line Southeast for a period of 30 years. That means they need their own fleet of equipment to perform those tasks.
This page will be covering 3 aspects of the fleet TransEd has employed:

Construction-  A lot of the equipment used during construction did have fleet numbers in the form of small and black stick on numbers. Of particular interest was the equipment used by Western Pacific Electrical to build the catenary. Some of the equipment used during construction did continue on with TransEd into the operations phase. The equipment that carried on will be included in the regular Operations section. None of the equipment was actually lettered for TransEd during this phase.
Operations- The operations fleet includes the equipment owned by TransEd for day to day maintenance and operations. This includes such things as vans and trucks for facilities maintenance, hi-rail vehicles, supervisor/ incident response vehicles. Early on this equipment either kept the yellow/ black numbers or had nothing at all. Eventually, they were get fleet numbers starting off with "TE" and TransEd decals on the sides.
Visitors- Equipment brought in for a short term project. This will include, initially, rail grinders and an ultrasonic inspection truck.

This page will evolve over time. It is likely that as the system ages more equipment might be required, and indeed, while it's not known yet how the Valley Line West will be operated and maintained, one possibility could be that TransEd will to contracted for that, which might require more equipment.
Interestingly, this is similar to how Edmonton Transit's LRT MoW fleet started. Mostly just hi-rail trucks, the 3850 was a multi purpose vehicle, a speeder and cars, and a hi-rail platform lift truck for catenary work.

The current fleet looks something like this:
