ETS LRT Track Maintenance

This page will cover equipment used by the LRT Track Maintenance Team. This equipment includes a large range of equipment from basic pick up trucks to hi-rail International trucks, to trailers, front end loaders and even a motor grader. This equipment is used all year for all manner of work that helps keep the tracks and ROW in top condition for running trains, including snow removal in winter. All equipment on this page is numbered within the City of Edmonton fleet numbering scheme, in contrast to equipment used for track maintenance but numbered in the LRT numbering scheme. An example would be backhoe 3869 is not on this page, but front end loader K4216 is. As much as I do try to screen photos and don't post everything I can, it's always neat to catch some of this equipment on different projects, sometimes on and off rails. As result, I have made some smaller subsections. There's other factors too for a lot of photos. Some of this equipment has been long lived, or will be long lived. The prime example is E6967 which was in use for 40 years. Or something like K2358 which was a chassis to start with, was fitted with the box from R2723 which was a 1993 unit, fitted with hi-rail wheels in 2014, repainted and had equipment added by 2016. Certainly, some of the specialized hi-rail equipment is low mileage. Some of this equipment has moved between branches. Examples include E2893 originally being used by the Bus Facilities side, later coming to Track Maintenance. H4134 came from Roadways, and R2242 went to LRT Engineering and Maintenance.

E6967 is an odd ball! This is a 1979 unit that managed to be used until 2020. Although LRT has some older equipment, this was pretty remarkable for a pickup truck. The number though doesn't fit into the late 1970's time frame as the "E"s were used in 1984 and 2003. I'm not sure of it's initial uses from 1979-2002, but, presumably it was some sort of jack of all trades hi-rail truck. It was most likely the truck I shot at the derailment of the tamper 3857 in 2002. By 2003 it had been converted into a dedicated welding truck and was now in the new ETS service support livery. It remained as a welding truck until about 2006 when H2340 was added to the fleet. At that point it was fitted with a flatbed and was used in various capacities over the next 14 years or so. One time in particular, it temporarily returned to its old role with a some welding equipment fitted. The truck, amazingly, received it's third livery when it received the current version of the service support livery and an LED light bar replacing it's older light bar. Unfortunately, the end of the line for this truck came in 2020, when in May 2020 it was sent through Michener Allen Auctioneering and sold for $4700, despite having engine issues.
	E6967?	1979	Ford	F-350 Custom	Hi-rail, work box	2002	I suspect that this is E6967 as seen below. The truck was attending the derailment of tamper 3857 just South of Coliseum. While I didn't specifically take a photo of this truck, I was able to crop an image to capture it. I'm not sure of it's exact use, but, it could have been set up for incidents like derailments.
