EDMONTON TRANSIT SERVICE
LRT Specialty Equipment
Towed Equipment and Miscellaneous

This page will document an assortment of assorted equipment that just doesn't fit in anywhere else. Some of these are to be expected to be document, like 3870 or 3871. Others like 3400 (a air compressor!) might be a little bit out there, however, it fits into the LRT numbering scheme.

Thumbnail Unit # Date Description
3400 CompAir 125- Yes, it's an air compressor. But, it has a fleet number, ETS decals, and fits into the ETS numbering scheme. So here it is.
3400 June 8, 2014 ETS #3400 at a rail replacement project near 95 St.
3402-3403 Geismar Tie Inserter, 3404-3406 Geismar Hydraulic Power Packs- I can't seem to find any information on this device in Geismar's website. It's job is to help remove old ties and insert new ones. It seems like a semi-automatic device, in that it has to be manually moved (not self-propelled), and from what little I've watched of it's operation, it needs a few crew members to operate. This is unlike some "full size" automated tie removal and insertation devices that only require one operator. I'm sure this however beats manually replacing ties, which I've seen crews do before. Along with these tie inserters are hydraulic power packs which power them. The hydraulic power packs are also used elsewhere as needed.
3402/ 3404 April 15, 2018 ETS #3402 being used for tie replacement north of 92 St.
3403/ 3406 April 15, 2018 ETS #3403 being used for tie replacement north of 92 St.
3403/ 3406 May 1, 2019 ETS #3403 being used for tie replacement on the northbound track south of 129 Ave, between the crossovers, and the limits of the 66 St tunnel trackwork being done by PNR.
3403/ 3406 May 1, 2019 ETS #3403 being used for tie replacement on the northbound track south of 129 Ave, between the crossovers, and the limits of the 66 St tunnel trackwork being done by PNR.
3863 1987 Simon Aerials Lift This piece of equipment often made up a catenary maintenance set up on 3855. Believed to be retired now, it's use in this roll has been superseded by #2011.
ets3863.jpg (93583 bytes) 3863 April 26, 2003 ETS #3863 is a Simon's aerial lift attached to ETS #3855 with a tower equipped with a pantograph attached at the other end making an effective line test car. Why is this unit on this page? It has regular wheels, but seems to spend most of its time on #3855 so it is used on either its wheels, or else sitting on a car running on rails.
3870 Hudson ROI Equipment Hi-Rail Dump Trailer- A rarely seen piece of equipment, as fortunately, it hasn't been needed much! One of two piece of LRT equipment in full blue and silver livery. This unit is equipped with hi-rail wheels. This unit has since been mounted to #3850, and the frame fitted with a dump box.
3870 April 26, 2003 Inside of DLM during the LRT 25th Anniversary,
3870 June 12, 2009 3870 inside of the ROW building.
3870 June 12, 2009 3870 inside of the ROW building.
3870 June 10, 2020 ETS #3870 in the Yellowhead Yard. I was surprised to see this show up, as the body had been mounted onto 3850. Seems the resourceful LRT crews took the hi-rail chassis and fitted it with a dump box.
3871 CAT Diesel Generator and Light Tower- This piece of equipment has been used to help with unloading LRV's, as well as seeing use on projects that run overnight.
3871 September 20, 2009   Inside of DLM.
3871 October 14, 2018 Near the Lendrum Tunnel while on a rail replacement project.
3872 Doosan LSC Light Tower- This seems like a pretty basic light tower, but, it has a fleet number so here it is.
3872 October 10, 2020 ETS #3872 at the worksite for the installation of a flange-bearing frog in the 57 Ave crossovers.
3874 Oxford Industrial Products Hydraulic Ramps- Fitted to 2101, these appear to be hydraulic ramps that would be used to create a ramp to access a station platform.

7205 Vacuum Trailer While I've rarely seen this piece of equipment out, I believe it has been used for tunnel washing mounted on 3855. To an extent, this piece of equipment has been replaced by a hi-rail vacuum/ hydro excavator truck. I think I can see this unit in another image when it was in the City of Edmonton blue paint. While it's not in the full on blue/ silver livery, it's close enough and that makes it a rarity in the LRT fleet. I suspect that the fleet number is an original City of Edmonton fleet number.
ets7205.jpg (95211 bytes) 7205 April 26, 2003 ETS #7205 at D.L. MacDonald on display during the 25th Anniversary of LRT.
7205 September 20, 2018 ETS #7205 parked outside of the RoW Building at D.L. MacDonald.
8073 Club Car- Used inside of DLM. It has a fleet number, an ETS logo, so here it is!
8073 June 16, 2018 ETS #8073 inside of DLM during the 40th Anniversary of LRT Open House.
Unknown Genie Z-30/20N Lift- Found this lift one day. Not sure of the fleet number. I figure it's most likely within LRT's numbering.
September 10, 2015 Lift inside of Central Station.
