EDMONTON TRANSIT SERVICE
LRT Specialty Equipment
Material Handling #2012, 2209, 3869
Material handling equipment might be better described as a crane, however, their
rolls are much more than that. In fact, the first time I saw 2012 in service it
was being used to adjust traction poles on the NLRT extension! 2209 was used to
tow LRV's in Calgary. Also being included in this group is #3869 which is a CAT
416C backhoe, with is listed as a tie handler in ETS material, and indeed, it
has been used for rail handling.
#2012 is a Geismar
KGT tronic. This unit is fitted with a AAR
coupler for moving railroad freight cars, although, I'm not aware if it being
used for that yet. Usually this unit has been found on trackwork projects where
it is often used for handling rail, be it lengths of rail, or components like
frogs.
#2029 is a Pettibone Speed Swing. Originally when I saw the tender for what
became #2012, I actually thought it would end up being something like a
Pettibone Speed Swing, however, I later realized the unit Edmonton was looking
for was a bit heavier duty than a Speed Swing. Fast forward about 5 years, and
Edmonton picked up a Pettibone Speed Swing from Calgary after CT replaced
theirs. Ex 3209 has received a significant rebuild and is now ETS #2029.

was some sort of LED meant to simulate a retro rotating beacon. Unfortunately,
this has since been replaced! |
