Government Centre Transit Centre is located among the
Provincial Government buildings in Downtown, along 107 St between 98 Ave and 99
Ave. While the Transit Centre isn't directly connected to an LRT station like
many are, it is within a 5-6 minute walk of the Government Centre LRT Station.
This Transit Centre was opened in mid-1982, replacing an off road bus loop
located on the east side of 106 St between 96 Ave and 97 Ave, although the route
63 continued to use this loop for a time, before the property was converted
fully into vehicle parking.
In addition to ETS buses, Government Centre also plays host to St. Albert and
Strathcona County buses. The terminal sees rather limited use outside of peak
hours, with only 2 ETS routes using it.
Perhaps because of this limited use, and being a rather sturdy built concrete
building, the interior retains a quite dated, but maintained interior. Once
Millgate is replaced by Davies with the opening of VLSE LRT, eventually,
Government Centre will become the oldest transit centre building by a long shot.
The second oldest would be the University shelter on the south side of the bus
laneways, dating from the 1990's.
