Central Station was the original end of line on the NELRT line. This station has a number of connections to area buildings via underground pedways and standalone entrances, and also an accessible standalone entrance at Jasper Ave and 100A St which houses an elevator and escalator and for many years housed an Edmonton Transit information booth.
The platform was built as a 5 car platform, however, what seems to be the result of SD160's being slightly longer and the placement of the points for the crossover at the south (west) end of the station and signal, a platform edge extension along the southbound track into the southbound tunnel at the north (east) end of the station was needed to properly support 5 car operation.

This station has seen a number of upgrades over the years:
Concourse renovations- 2012-2013 which included the creation of a retail outlet outfitted as a cafe in the west concourse
Platform edge tiles
Platform ceiling/ lights replacement
Escalator replacement.

Despite being a 5 car platform, it seems the southbound side might have been a bit short because of the crossover. As a result, the opposite end was modified to extend a bit beyond the station bulkhead to accommodate 5 car trains.
