In 1994, Edmonton Transit received an additional 16 D40LFs, #s 243-258. Similar to the 1993s, they are powered by a Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engine and ZF 4HP500 transmission. One difference with these buses is the glass on the rear door only goes from the top to the middle of the door. Due to the same questionable build quality as the 1993s, all were refurbished between 1998 and 2007. #s 243 and 255 were repainted into blue and silver for the launch of the revamped transit system in 1997, featuring the same prototype scheme as #s 214 and 227 (large Edmonton Transit System decals and additional rear ETS logos). #243 was retired in 2008 without ever recieving a full refubishment, while #255 was eventually refurbished and emerged with standard decals. As of mid 2014, all of these buses have been retired. The first unit retired was #243 in mid 2008, with the rest out of service by July 2014.
