Edmonton Transit's first new 40' buses since 1982 were low floor buses purchased from New Flyer. Powered by the Detroit Diesel 6V-92TA engine and ZF 4HP500 transmission, the D40LF model buses were #s 200-242. #200 was delivered a few months in advance to help facilitate driver draining, and featured a few differences from the rest of the series. Due to questionable build quality, all were refurbished between 1998 and 2007. #227 was the first one done in 1998, and #229 was the last one completed in early 2007. #214 was repainted in 1997 to show off the new paint scheme for ETS. This paint scheme differed slightly from the final version, including large Edmonton Transit System decals and additional rear ETS logos. While #214 was eventually refurbished and emerged with standard decals, #227 retained these decals. #214 also demoed a set of Balios orange LED destination signs, and was used to help promote ETS's revamped transit system in June 1997. This bus now has its original Luminator Matrix: MAX green flipdot sign back. #209 demoed a Luminator Horizon orange LED destination sign on the front only, but like on 214 that was soon changed back to its original flipdot sign. #213 became the prototype for lower-mounted interior lighting, and #s 237 and 242 recieved additional lower panel bracing on refurbishment. As of mid 2014, all of these buses appear to have been retired. The first unit retired was #226 in mid 2008, with the rest out of service by July 2014. #237 remains on property as part of the ETS Historical Collection.
