EDMONTON TRANSIT SERVICE
2017 Grande West
Vicinity B30A #2000-2015
This initial fleet of Grande West Vicinity B30A
buses represents a departure from ETS's usual cutaway purchases for their
community shuttle / para transit fleet. Since the replacement of the ELF's, ETS
has been a bit of an outliner among transit agencies by purchasing cutaways
built on heavier duty chassis, with buses that have been 10 year Altoona tested.
In the need to replace the ELF's, ETS has ended up with a mixed fleet of Glaval
Easy On's, ElDorado Passport's, and International IC LC's, including ex demo
vehicles. The Vicinity is a 30' "conventional" low floor bus with a rear mounted
Cummins ISB engine and ZF transmission. The Vicinity is a 12 year Altoona tested
bus, designed in Canada by Grande West and built in China. The buses are
finished in Abbottsford, BC by Grande West.
This initial order is 16 units, covering the first announced
order from 2016 for 6 buses from the 2016 budget year, plus the second option
year with 2017 budget money for 10 units. Despite being on property in October,
the first units didn't enter service until February 2018, at which point the next
order for 33 units (#2016-2048) had already begun arriving.
While the replacement plans for the existing fleet ran into
the 2020's, PTIF and GreenTRIP funding has allowed an accelerated replacement
which saw the majority of cutaways retired from the conventional ETS fleet
in 2018. During the March-August 2020 service reductions for Covid-19, these buses were parked
to help facilitate social distancing. All have since returned to service with operator's
compartment shields installed.
