2013 New Flyer XD40

Delivery of ETS' first New Flyer Xcelsiors (XD40) began as early as June 2013, however it wasn't until October that the buses finally
entered service. Presumably they were ordered for the sake of fleet expansion and replacing the remainder of the 1993 / 1994 200 series D40LF's.
The selection of the Xcelsior model in place of the standard LFR was probably more of an evolutionary decision, as the buses otherwise have the same engine +
transmission + HVAC setup as the 2012 LFR's. As part of the new model, the interior layout is slightly different (more forward-facing seats and dual rear-facing wheelchair
positions with partitioning walls); however includes the same "ETS Blue" 4ONE Aries seating as all of the 2009+ units. The new standard
also includes LED headlights. All were fitted with Smartbus GPS & stop announcement systems in 2016, and exterior cameras & operator's compartment shields in 2019-20. As of November 2023, all 9 of
these buses are in active service. They ended up being unique compared to all later ETS XD's, with the older seating, transmission, and non-A/C HVAC specs that were changed for the larger orders starting in 2018.
