EDMONTON TRANSIT SYSTEM
2007 New Flyer D40LFR
#4573-4753
The 2007 bus order as originally planned consisted of 50 units (#s 4523-4572). In early 2007, ETS chose to exercise their options all at once, and purchased an additional 181 buses on top of the original 50 for a total of 231 units. For the sake of organization, this series has thus been divided into two separate pages.
These were ETS' first New Flyer D40LFR's, featuring restyled front and rear ends. They were also the first to include the updated Cummins ISL to meet EPA 2007 emissions standards (this package includes several upgrades, ranging from particulate burners to reduced noise emissions).
These units have a different serial number range than #s 4523-4572. There is another serial number divison between #s 4688 and 4689, confirming that the entire order actually consists of three separate batches of buses. Units 4598 and up included blue "LRT" style seat inserts in place
of the older purple anti-grafiti ones. Five camera video monitoring systems were also installed in all units shortly after delivery. While some units weren't delivered until early 2008, most if not all were constructed in 2007. For whatever reason, #4642 received a different style of rear interior vent grille than the rest of the series.
#'s 4742-43 (along with DE40LFR #6001) were prototypes for LED interior lighting. This system is slightly different than the finallized version included in the 2009 order, as it lacks the light diffusing plastic (i.e. the individual LED cartridges are visible).
#4753 was retroffied with American Seating Vision model hard shell and fabric seating, presumably to demonstrate seating possibilities prior to the arrival of the 2018 XD40's. Later retrofits included blue ETS insignia seat inserts (select units only), Smartbus GPS & stop announcement systems, exterior cameras, operator's compartment shields and A/C units. As of November 2023, all of these buses are in active service.
