In 1995 Calgary Transit received 2 batches of D40LF's. Both 1995 orders had the Detroit Diesel Series 50 engines with the Allison B400R4 transmissions. Since their arrivals, 7551 was retrofitted with the Sutrak roof mounted heating system in the Spring of 1998 as a test for the 1999 New Flyer D40LF's. 7571 was retrofitted with Alcoa aluminum wheel rims.
