In 1971, Calgary Transit received it's first order of Flyer buses, an order for 7 D700A's #540-546. All 7 of these buses had the double folding rear doors and were powered by the Detroit Diesel 6V71N engine with the Spicer Model 183 transmission. These buses were pulled off the road by about 1981 and sold by the fall of 1983. Most of these buses were in harsh shape when they were retired. They were all retired for various mechanical defects ranging from cracked engine bulkheads, broken engine mounts, defective drive shafts, right down to bad frames too.
