COLD LAKE TRANSIT
Cold Lake Transit launched service on August 26, 2015 after a previous
attempt in 2004/05. The initial fleet consisted of second hand MCI Classic's
purchased from Calgary Transit. In total, 9 Classic's would be purchased from
Calgary Transit with 6 on hand to launched service in 2015, and 3 more arriving
in 2016. Not all saw service, with some being used for parts. The choice to go
with used buses was made to allow Cold Lake Transit to have a fleet of buses with
minimal capital costs. Since then, two Nova Bus LFS's were purchased in 2018,
followed by a third, and then followed by 2 ex Strathcona County Transit LFS
suburban buses in 2022 via an Edmonton used vehicle dealer. Two routes have
operated since the start, and still do today. Service is provide
Monday-Saturday. For the first year fares were to be free as it was realized that
transit would not be able to recover it's costs with fares anyways, and it was hoped the
free fares would encourage a modal shift. Since then fares have remained free to this day.
