Public Transit Victoria (Melbourne) Trams - D Class

When the Melbourne tram system was privatized in the early 2000's, operations were divided between two different contractors. M>Tram, the group that ultimately ended up being bought out by the other (Yarra Trams), began ordering replacement trams in 2002. The Melbourne D Class tram, known elsewhere as the Siemens Combino, actually consists of two different models. The 59 three-section units delivered in 2002-04 are referred to as class D1, while the five-section units delivered in 2004 are referred to as class D2.
