How to Disassemble a Busch GM New Look HO Scale Model

This page will provide step by step instructions on how to disassemble a Busch GM New Look HO scale bus model.
Disclaimer: I cannot be held liable if you break, damage, or otherwise ruin your own model, or hurt yourself following the instructions I provide.

The way I do it, is I remove the tires, then grab a hub and pull it off the axel. You can then slide the axel out with the other hub attached still. I will then replace the other hub on the axel, and the tires so that everything is together. There's no glue used on these parts. It's just a friction fit.

SANY0345.JPG (148720 bytes) Step 2: Removing the chassis (or at least the part I'm calling the chassis!). Not particularly pretty the way I did it, but effective. I slid a knife in between the black plastic of the chassis, and the coloured plastic at the wheel openings. I then tried to rotate the knife up carefully, breaking the relatively week bonds between the black chassis and the body and freeing the chassis. It might not hurt to slide hobby knife with a #11 blade along the sides to weaken any bonds there. Do this at both wheel openings.

SANY0347.JPG (76985 bytes) Step 3: Removing the bumpers. The bumpers appear to just be a press fit into holes in the body. First of all, push out from inside of the bus on the mounting posts. I then slip a knife in between the body and the bumper and use that to pry the bumper off the rest of the way. Should you damage the body, it's likely going to be covered by the bumper, or else you're probably going to be painting the bus anyways if you're reading this.

SANY0349.JPG (126267 bytes) Step 4: Removing the lower body. The green part that you see is one whole peice, including the lower skirt panels and silver sides. To remove this, I slipped the knife in between the green plastic and the gray plastic of the interior at the wheel openings, just like with the chassis. I slightly rotated the knife to pry the two peices apart, repeating this at the other wheel opening.

SANY0351.JPG (148976 bytes) Step 5: Remove the interior. This piece will slide out easily with a little jiggling.
SANY0352.JPG (88354 bytes) Step 6: Removing the window glazing. The windows are made up of 3 pieces: the windshield, the rear window and the large piece with all of the glazing for the side windows and doors. Remove the side window glazing by carefully pinching in on the clear plastic tabs at one end. Pull the glazing at least part way free of the window openings, and then repeat at the opposite end of the model. You should then be able to remove the whole piece of glazing. The front windsheild and rear window will just pop out after the main glazing has been removed.
SANY0353.JPG (156353 bytes) Glazing partially removed. You can pop the A/C unit off by pushing out from the inside on the bottom of the A/C unit.
