Farewell to Brills

Special section dedicated to the last of the Vancouver Brills

1984 marked the last year that CC&F Brill/Canadian Car Brill trolley buses ran in the streets of Vancouver. By this time, the newest Brills in the 2400 series were already 30 years old. Newer trolley buses were ordered to replace the Brills, beginning with the 1975/1976 Flyer E800 trolley buses 2601-2650, followed by the 1982-1983 Flyer E901A & E902 Trolley buses numbers 2701-2799, 2801-2899, and 2901-2947. The brills were set aside for resale to Mexico City as the rumor went and the sale didn't go through, leaving some 247+ trolley buses to sit and rot until a buyer could be found. They were in storage on Mitchell Island, A1 United Autowrecking, and then when A1 United Autowrecking dumped the buses, they were spread around, some of the buses being purchased by a fellow in Sandon, BC that wanted to see these buses saved, the Illinois Railway Museum, TRAMS (Vancouver), Translink, and even to two different scrapping outfits, Richmond Steel and Recycling and Slater Iron and Salvage. Some plans for the trolley buses includes TRAMS restoring Brill 2341, Translink was to restore the 2400 series that got saved and use it on a historical line in Downtown Vancouver which later got cancelled and the buses sold or parted out, the Illinois Railway Museum saving and restoring 2340, and the fellow out in Sandon, BC holding on to some of these Brills for saving. This photo collection will show the CC&F Brills & Canadian Car Brill trolley buses in their final years from 1984-2001 when they were last used to the days when they were hauled off for scrapping, grouped together by the location where they were shot.
