STRATHCONA COUNTY TRANSIT
2007 Setra S-417 #1011-1013

After running a demonstrator Setra S-417 highway coach in mid-2005, Strathcona County Transit surprised a few of us by purchasing three units in 2007. Previously, Strathcona had only considered coaches built by Prevost. Volvo happens to own Prevost, as well as Nova Bus, so this commonality made logical sense. On the other hand, Setra, Thomas, and Orion all fell under the Daimler Chrysler brand at the time, so these coaches weren't that far off from the existing fleet. Powered by the same Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines and Allison B500R transmissions found in the Prevost coaches, these buses were primarily used on communter runs to and from Edmonton. Originally delivered without destination signs, they were fitted with orange LED front destination signs in 2011, which possibly came out of some recently retired shuttle buses. Rumor has it that these buses weren't very well-liked by operators and mechanics, so upon the arrival of the 14 Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 double decker buses in mid 2014, they were retired and sold.
