FORT SASKATCHEWAN TRANSIT

Fort Saskatchewan is located Northeast of Edmonton. Bus service began with an 8 month trial commencing in September 2004 with the route 198 connecting Fort Saskatchewan to ETS's Clareview LRT Station. The service was contracted to ETS who operated it as the route 198, and with the reorganization of contracted routes to the 500's, as the 580. For 10 years the service more or less operated unchanged as a mainly peak hour, Monday-Friday service doing a loop through Fort Saskatchewan and to Clareview. I say "mainly peak" as the first afternoon bus would start at about 13:30. April 2014 brought in local routes provided by local contractor Fort Taxi and Buslines who provided 2 high floor cutaways. The two routes, the 582 and 583, operated opposite loops while the 198 was reduced to a smaller loop. The next major change was in September 2016 when buses purchased by the City and operated by PWTransit took over local routes, and provided all day service. The routes remained the 582 and 583, and which point ETS renumbered it's route to 580. The fleet purchased by Fort Saskatchewan consisted of 3 GMC/ Arboc cutaway buses. ETS buses are drawn from a pool of highway equipped buses (emergency gear on board is basically all it is).
