EDMONTON TRANSIT SERVICE
2022 New Flyer XHE40 #6016

ETS has purchased a pair XHE40 hydrogen fuel buses as part of Alberta Zero Emission Hydrogen Transit (AZEHT) project to develop hands on experience in Alberta with fuel cell buses. Each bus will cost about $1.6 million, with ETS only retaining 1 bus. The other bus will be transferred to Strathcona County Transit with Edmonton being reimbursed by Strathcona County and Emissions Reduction Alberta so that Edmonton's cost for the 1 bus will be $800,000. The buses will feature Ballard fuel cells. Refuelling will take place at the Alberta Zero Emission Truck Electrification Collaboration (AZETEC) site being developed to test Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell trucks. This is to be a 23 month project, and could see either or both of the Edmonton and Strathcona buses visiting other properties.
