EDMONTON TRANSIT SYSTEM
2012 New Flyer D40LFR #s 4876-4879  

Due to an apparent city funding surplus, ETS recieved a small order of 4 buses in the year 2012. These were the first 40' ETS units delivered with EPA 2010 compliant diesel engines (not counting the two ISE Hybrids, #s 6003 and 6004, which were converted to EPA 2010 diesel and returned to service in April 2011). This new standard includes a urea system which occupies the space at the rear of the bus where the HVAC is normally installed, so these buses feature rooftop HVAC systems mounted closer to the front end. The front-roof vent assembly on the inside of the buses resembles those found on New Flyer Xcelsiors. These buses also feature updated (full color LCD) destination sign controllers, restyled front light assemblies (to better accomodate bike racks), a slightly different style of steering wheel, and flat, non-contoured rear panels. Everything else is similar to the 2009 order. #4876 is equipped with hard shell seat inserts in the rear half of the bus. Later retrofits include Smart Bus GPS & stop announcement systems, exterior cameras, and operator's compartment shields. As of November 2023, all four of these buses are in active service running out of Centennial Garage.

4876 December 2023 The interior toward the rear of 4876. The front half of the bus is the usual carpeting minus the ETS print, while the rear half is hard shell seating. This bus received these seat inserts as a retrofit sometime around 2016-17, presumably to demonstrate seating possibilities prior to the arrival of the 2018 XD40's. 2007 unit #4753 received a similar hard/soft split seat retrofit; however, that bus was also converted to American Seating Vision seat frames rather than just receiving an insert upgrade.

4877 August 7th, 2012 4877 Southbound on 103st at 102ave as a route 100 West Edmonton Mall. The route 100, along with many others, was detouring off Jasper Avenue at the time due to the Central LRT Station roof repair / Jasper Avenue rehabilitation project.
