EDMONTON TRANSIT SYSTEM
2011 New Flyer D60LFR #s 4913-4932

For the sake of introducing articulated service to the route 8, ETS received 20 New Flyer D60LFR's in 2011. These were the first ETS units delivered with EPA 2010 compliant diesel engines (not counting the two ISE Hybrids, #'s 6003 and 6004, which were converted to EPA 2010 diesel and returned to service in April 2011). This new standard includes a urea system which occupies the space at the rear of the bus, hence the omission of the rear window found on the earlier D60LF's. These buses were also the first and so far only ETS units with Voith D864.5 transmissions in place of the usual Allison model. Other new features include updated (full color LCD) destination sign controllers and restyled front light assemblies (to better accomodate bike racks). These buses included the same 4ONE Aries seating as all of the 2009+ D40LFR's; however units 4924-4932 have "Vancouver" style plain-blue vinyl inserts in place of the standard "ETS Blue" fabric. Equipped with two rear-facing wheelchair positions, these buses originally had flip down grab rails attatched to the wheelchair cushions. These were removed shortly before the buses went into service, probably because of the negative experiences other transit operators had with them. These buses were originally deployed on routes 8 and 9 Monday to Friday, as well as on a handful of AM route 100 extras. From July 2018 to March 2020, articulated service was reduced to a handful of trips on the routes 15 and 100 to save milage on the 2001-03 D60LF's. During the March-August 2020 service reductions for Covid-19, these buses along with the 2019-20 XD60's were reassigned to 15-20 odd other routes to help promote social distancing during the pandemic. From September 2020 until the deployment of the bus network redesign in April 2021, articulated operations returned to weekday service on routes 8, 9, 15, and 100. Post bus network redesign, they can be found on routes 8, 9, 110x, 500x and 900x. All of these buses continue in service, and have been refitted with Smartbus GPS & stop announcement systems and operator's compartment shields & A/C units.
