In 1996, Calgary Transit ordered 44 New Flyer D40LF's numbered 7601 to 7644.  These buses were the first ordered for Calgary Transit with the rear mounted Thermo-King heating system, and the first order for Calgary Transit with the Allison B400R5 transmissions (The 1995's had the Allison B400R4 Transmissions).  They were still powered with the Series 50 Engine, but were the 250 Horsepower engines instead of the 275 Horsepower engines that the previous order came with.
